About You
Extremely insightful given that you are a first year student in university. Detailed explanations of the bank and the industry and of each and every division. The first hand information is of high value.
Very well taken care of. Provided accomodation given not based in London and dinner allowances. Respected interns and many top level managers came to speak which shows the importance HSBC gives to the interns.
Staff from every department very willing to talk both about personal preferences and the technical aspects of the bank. The managers of the programme were also really helpful and understanding as they pointed out important points at end of most speeches.
The skills learnt are basic given it is just for 3 days. A crash course about the bank and slight insight into the industry.
The Company
Very well organised. Session with every division of the GBM. Well addressed pamphlets provided at start of insight. Gave a great idea of what is to come and provides opportunity to research beforehand. Only problem is that division to be fast tracked and choice of division has to be done within the 3 days. More time could be given to interns as it could potentially shape the career.
Lots of hands on activities and opportunity to interact with both fellow interns and speakers meant that there were no long speeches. This lead to enjoyable yet very informative internship.
Many hands on session meant that there was emphasis on understanding the bank's structure. Skills session included extensive training on networking skills which was really useful.
Part of the internship included tour of trading floor which gives an idea of the workspace and style. Similarly most division had an hands on session related to their department which meant that you get a fair idea of what each division does and what type of work you will encounter.
Extensive introductory session by a senior member of the bank highlighted the history and the culture and belifes of bank. Also talked about bank's view on the issues of the economy and the problems it has been facing and how it plans to tackle them.
Highly valuable as they provide great insight about each division along with first hand opinions of the division and industry.
Everything Else
Provided accomodation in hotel given I am not based in London. Reimbursed for dinner expenses.
Many networking sessions along with plenty of opportunity to talk to employees after presentation. Big dinner at the end of the proggramme also very helpful in building a connection.
Very interactive and mostly formal.
Insight was mainly focused on the functions of division and lifestyle and culture in work.
One of the best insights given that you get an oppurtunity to learn about every division unlike others which specialise.
