About You
A variety of different activities, including an overview of the business and different sectors for banking - which was a great opportunity to learn.
All Graduates dealt with were really nice - even though they were taking up to three afternoons in a week off to speak with us. Everyone we encountered encouraged us to ask any question we wanted.
A lot of support in the first few days on what we had to do - but from then on we were left to it. Also had training in things we were expected to do later in the week.
Some of the skills will serve really well for life, however, some of the skills we were taught were absolutely useless and far to "corporate"
The Company
They seemed to have spent a long time coming up with the structure - and especially when we were in their offices it was very structured. Some of the training side of things weren't as structured - though.
The atmosphere was really good - plenty of time for everyone to get to know each other, and many breaks during the day for some great food. One or two socials to!
There wasn't a moment on the insight week where we were not being trained in something, or developing our skills - this was a strong point and obviously by design. It was really obvious it had worked by the end of the week.
We got a good chance to talk to a mix of graduates about what their roles concerned. However - we didn't spend enough time in one area to get a complete idea of the day-to-day.
Sessions on the company culture during the week, and this was backed up by our visits to the offices.
It was useful for deciding whether a) banking and b) Barclays was for "you". Apart from Fast-Tracking to Summer Intern Assessment Centre's there wasn't a lot more about the "future"
Everything Else
Paid + expenses + accommodation - very very good.
Two networking evenings during the week, three afternoons meeting with graduates in different areas one-on-one. Lots of time to network with other interns, and some senior leaders.
Good evening to meet the other interns. Plenty of times during the day to chat over breakfast etc. Many saw each other over the week as we worked on projects, too.
Some opportunity - mostly through the Question and Answer session of one presentation on the final day.
Overall was a very good experience and would particularly recommend for working out if banking and Barclays is for you.
