The Role
Whilst without a shadow of a doubt this placement will provide a breathtaking experience to those who wish to dabble in the fine arts of managing a large scale operation; the rail industry, whilst can be interesting is not particular the field I wish to dive into.
From the get-go TfL provided a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Considering that the project was coming to the busy end I was surprised to be provided with such useful advice.
Here whilst I've giving TfL a glowing review their were instances of being 'too bored' but options were open to find work or undertake further research; mind you this does not detract from the overall value of the placement and when the busy times came as it really was 'guns at showdown' - gripping stuff.
In my mind this particular question is very dependant on the nature of your work, as I, if you forgive the analogy, was playing catch up to a maglev, coming to terms with the sheer beast could be likened to taking a hit from that great man - ouch! doesnt quite cut it. Therefore how could much responsibility really be dished out? but there was a nice refreshing amount of trust which could only help to instill a professional atmosphere.
I will not sour this question with any long paragraphs but rather leave you with a single word - Perspective.
The Company
It seems any place where something meanging full happens people seem to pen this word 'balance' to your forehead. Well this equally applies here there is a very positive atmosphere due to a successful culmination of both work and social interaction.
THe general consensus was that whilst not being terrible it wasn't flawless - offering room for improvement.
The company has really excelled and has provided me with an incredible amount to gauge and understand. It was immediately apparent that TfL has instilled an ethos of learning and development with numerous resources available to all - this can only be a good thing!
Flexi Time
Above 25 days holiday
If your looking to sample the transportation sector and explore London then this is definately for you.
The Culture
There was a really nice bond formed within the undergrads I worked with, with some (possibly all) of our conversations being non-work related, funny with an underlying hint of humerous aggression meaning that Lunch hours were simply legendary.
Unless you live in London then this will rinse you - simple as that.
I loved the symmetry where I worked - on one side of out block of buildings there is an educational establishment and the other a strip-joint. As for Nightlife there were only really bars around but found a really good sportsbar to watch those afterwork football matches and play some pool.
Unless you find Bowls the most entertaining sport (debatable!?) on the planet...maybe not.
