The Role
I greatly enjoyed working for Goodyear Dunlop it’s a fantastically diverse company with something to interest anyone studying any aspect of business.
You are made to feel like any other employee and not just a temporary member of the department.
All the managers are very aproachable and will to help resolve any issues you may have. Managers never make you feel bad for making mistaks and will always help to resolve the problem and allow you learn from the mistake.
I encounter a good level of work while some days are busier than others there is always something to do.
You get a great level of responsibility, with you work having a visible impact to how the company runs on a daily basis. You are made to feel like an integral part of the team and will come to a point where you are answering the question rather than just asking them.
I have gain many useful skil partly through to my daily but also due to Goodyear Dunlop putting all undergrads you through a training program which includes courses such as presentation skills and project management resulting in skills which are learned and then can be used on the job.
The Company
There is a great atmosphere in the office with pleanty of laughs and internation not only with your department but will all departments across the business.
There is an organised structure to follow however due to not all undergrads starting at the same time it is not particualy rigid however this does lead to more office time and time on the job.
The company really feels like it invests in its undergrads with multiple training courses and days. It always feel like the company is training you for a job rather than just unsing you for a year.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
There is pleanty of opportnity to stay beyond the placement if you have perform well There are also number of graduates working for the company which orginally came as undergrads.
The Culture
There were over 20 other students are placement with Goodyear Dunlop and there was a great social scene with nights out organised through the year and many students played football after work weekly as well as 2 company wide football tournaments being arranged.
The cost of living s reasonable. With so many students across the city due to the 3 universities there is always somewhere to go and always events being held. Due to being in one of the UK's largest cities there are endless place to visit including IMAX cinemas, fantastic shopping, theatres and Cadbury world, all offering student discounts.
Nightlife is fantastic with the office being based in Birmingham there are plenty of clubs available in town and due to the number of universities there is always somewhere offering great deals with plenty of people and atmosphere.
There are a number of opportunitys to get involved ranging from nights out with other students or your department to weekly football games and the christmas party every year.
