About You
It was hard work and very intense but worth it! Very much enjoyed it!
As interns we were welcomed into the company and able to learn what life at Goldman Sachs is really like. There was freedom to ask questions and gain a real insight into how it is to be an employee of Goldmans. We were made to feel like we really were being considered for future employment and that they were concerned with our career development and giving us the opportunity to explore for ourselves whether this would be the right place for us.
We each had a "buddy" who could answer any questions we might have and it was very helpful for when we had questions that we may not have been able to ask for fear of looking like our knowledge was lacking! That being said, everyone I met seemed to be very open to answering questions and speaking honestly about their day-to-day working experience.
The internship helped me to understand what it is like to work in Goldman Sachs and to confirm my interest in working in Technology in an investment bank and specifically GS. During the internship I was exposed to a lot of new information which will enable me to explore further into technology and has helped me to start identifying my specific interests and career goals.
The Company
There was a full schedule which allowed us to experience a lot of the firm in a very short time frame. There was also time to work on our individual projects which gave us an opportunity to understand and apply time management skills as well as look deeper into specific technology roles within the bank and how they are relevant.
It was very intense and hard work. I felt very welcomed, supported and encouraged to excel. It was tiring and overwhelming at times but mentally stimulating and exciting.
It was only a two-week insight...there were information sessions but not specific personal training opportunities.
Although hard to form a real understanding in two weeks, everyone we met (employees and HR) worked hard to convey how it would be, and has been for them, working in Goldman Sachs full time.
During the internship we were able to meet lots of employees in a wide range of roles within the technology division, from graduate to MD, which helped us to understand how employees find working in Goldman Sachs, as well as how they relate to one another.
The internship helped me to understand the environment of the industry, as well as the specific company and indeed the division. It helped me to gain more of an understanding about the specific role and type of work I might want to have a career in.
Everything Else
The amount was able to both cover costs of living during the internship as well as provide enough to buy clothes etc for the internship (paid at the start of the internship).
There were several networking events structured into our programme and also it was often possible to meet/follow up with an employee you had met previously; most employees seemed very willing to give their time and respected the fact that we were only there for two weeks so were very accommodating.
There was opportunity to network both with employees in Technology, for example we had lunch with the Campus Recruiting Committee, who are involved in recruiting new graduates in to their business units. We also were able to meet employees that belong to firm-wide networks.
We had talks about the initiatives that Goldman Sachs run in order to help people in the community and it seems employees are encouraged to actively get involved in these initiatives.
The insight was a fantastic way to understand about life at Goldman Sachs and life in the Technology division of an investment bank. It challenged my preconceptions and introduced me to new possibilities for my future career.
