The Role
I have really enjoyed working at Unilever. Not only have I learned a lot about myself and developed as a person, I have also gained valuable insights into how large organisations are structured and how the industry works. I'm looking forward to being able to apply what I've learned this year in the classroom and hopefully walk away with a First class degree.
On a professional and social level, I've feel like I've become integral to my team - so much so that I took some annual leave people were relieved that I was back.
Unilever as an organisation which actively encourages honest feedback and support where needed. The support and guidance I've received by my line manager, contact managers and others in the business as has been outstanding.
I always had things that I could be doing, and quieter periods allowed me to go that little bit further into things that the rest of my team didn't have time to do
I was given responsibility at a much greater level than I anticipated. Yes, I still made more than my far share of cups of tea but I also was responsible for some cool projects/areas and got exposure to senior people
The year has provided me with so many examples of things that I'm going to learn about next year, and it's much easier to learn the theory when you have a personal example
The Company
The atmosphere was always good. Even in busy periods, people still had a joke or two and people remained approachable
There were a couple of hiccups with contracts, and the induction process needed improvement. However, I've been involved with some elements of the induction process for the coming year and it's clear that they've taken onboard our feedback
My line manager was excellent at getting me on to top up courses run for the sales team, that gave me an overview of what the training was. However I wouldn't have necessarily got to do these had it not been for my boss!

The Culture
The social scene was good - there are a lot of graduates and placement students to go out with. I benefitted from being based in the UK head office where the majority of roles are which certainly
I lived nearer to the office than other placement students to save on rent, however living nearer London was possible if you budgeted accordingly. Not as cheap as University, but the nights out were manageable on the salary given
Nightlife was good, as was near London and Guildford was always an option.
There weren't huge opportunities however Unilever has events throughtout the year that anyone can take part in (e.g Dove Days in Schools promoting confidenc)
