The Role
There is a regular intake of students every year and thus I felt as valued as any other colleague working at the company, regardless of experience. The students are involved in important projects and
I found the support and training very helpful. Being from a non technical background I found the management team very good at explaining certain things and after a few weeks I felt I had a fairly good grasp of the company and the industry.
I had the opportunity to be involved in high level projects and really felt that I gained good experience in a global business environment. I think that the company is perfect for an internship/placement as I have had alot more responsibility than my friends on placements with more recognised companies.
My internship has been a great addition to my CV and has been a brilliant opportunity to gain experience in a global company. I have learnt many transferable skills that have helped me differentiate myself in what is an incredibly competitive market for graduate jobs.
The Company
Very friendly and fun atmosphere to work in! There are many students on site so it is quite an inclusive atmosphere whatever role you are doing.
I had clearly defined projects and got the opportunity to work with different departments in the organisation. On my first day I was given some materials to help me learn more about the company and I was alos introduced to alot of people across the organisation.
There are many opportunites to further skills with regular training opportnuties available to the staff. I also found that many of my colleagues were more than willing to offer advice on helping me with my future career
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
The organisation is growing and many jobs come available all the time. However, regardless of whether a job comes available after the placement I have found the experience a massive step in helping me with my future career
The Culture
There are many students spread across different departments on site so the social scene is very active.
Derby is a very cheap area of the country to live and go out in. Many of my friends have done internships/ placements in London and have no money to spend after they have paid their rent/ bills etc.
Derby's nightlife is pretty good and there are many cheap student nights that you can get involved in. Also there are regular buses to Nottingham that run late at night which is a really good night out and a city full of students.
The Sports and Social club is very active in organisaing various different events. Also socialising with other colleagues is commonplace with various things going on ranging from meals and drinks out, to more active events
