The Role
very social and friendly site, 20 other students which was great
students contribution and work for the company is seen as extremely important and is well valued
Had a supervisor I worked very closely with who was a great mentor and teachers as well as a boss
very busy on a daily basis but this was more as a result of work from my university rather than been overloaded by the company and our department head makes us lots of tea which is a nice break
I was given lots of responsibility in what experiments I performed and having meetings with the colleagues from the US
My presenting skills have drastically improved as have how to work efficiently and work sucessfully accross departments and as this is a global company accross continents
The Company
I was in an office with 4 other students, we help each other with work and the office has a fun atmosphere but is serious when we get down to work
The company is well organised, my university could be better organised
I have been trained by a research chemist with a phd and 5 years of industrial experience, I sit in meeting and have learnt a corporate approach to working successfully
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Currently the department I work in has no opening for a new chemist at my level and the same is true for the US
The Culture
the 20 other students on site as well as the sports and social club meant there was a good social scene
The company is located in Derby which is a very cheap city
The nightlife is poor compared to other larger cities, Sat nights are busy. I guess this depends on personal taste
These include races, sporting events and social activities throughout the year which are subsidised by the company.
