The Role
Brilliant for someone more interested in programming
Everyone was very friendly and supportive, despite my lack of knowledge
My manager was there whenever I needed him
I never felt overworked, but was rarely idle
An appropriate amount; nothing that I did was submitted without review, but that was the same for all developers, regardless of experience
Programming is a useful life skill, so getting a basic grounding now may well be helpful in future
The Company
As you might imagine, an office full of programmers isn't the most exciting place to be. The atmosphere wasn't unpleasant; just not hugely chatty or engaging
The interns integrated very well into the company, and with each other, as we lived together, so the whole package seemed to work out very well
My manager/mentor was always on hand whenever I had any questions. Coming from a background with no programming experience, those questions came thick and fast at the beginning, so a substantial portion of his time was invested in me
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
It would be very appealing if I wanted to go down this career path
The Culture
There were around 25 of us, who met up multiple times a week. Additionally, we were living in a couple of houses, so there was normally someone in your house who you got on with quite well. It almost felt like uni life, just on a slightly smaller scale, and with more money involved
Considering how near we were to london, the prices were very reasonable
London was half an hour away...
There were a huge host of clubs/societies within the company, including most popular sports, and participation in these over lunch breaks or after work was actively encouraged
