The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed the placement, as I was offered the chance to get involved in a variety of different areas and network with a wide variety of people.
The company is full of people who are always willing to help - even if they are based on the other side of the world.
Guidance isn't just given by the director mentor/supervisor, there's a host of people around willing to give guidance and advise.
The workload varied through the month; with the first and last week of each month tending to be a lot busier than than the middle.
The responsibilities given were far beyond what I was expecting - with involvement in 24-month planning one of the highlights.
The skills and training received complement academic knowledge perfectly. Cummins gives an insight into office life, albeit in a fairly relaxed environment.
The Company
The office is a great place to work - it's fairly laidback, yet there's still a good work ethic.
Occasionally things seemed to drop off the radar due to the workload; however this could be because of developments within the company during the placement year.
There's an investment everyday - however the highlight was an external training course attended by some quite senior colleagues.

Working from home
I'd definitely love to work at Cummins in future; not looking forward to leaving at all!
The Culture
The social scene was lacking slightly; more due to my personal preference of going home on weekends etc. Although the banter with fellow placement students was great.
The cost of living is really low - with rooms to rent available from around 60 pound per week and flats from 300/350.
I never tried the nightlife in the area - I preferred to go home on a weekend.
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved - football, charity events and staff nights out are commonplace. There's also the opportunity to get involved and do charity work as part of the placement, working in a local charity/school with colleagues.
