The Role
I enjoyed being in a real world working environment. I was given full time responsibilities and my own workload to manage.
Everyone in the office was always friendly and supportive. People were always open to talk to and respected each other.
My manager was always open to give me support regardless of how small or large my problem was. He was easily approachable and very helpful.
Most days there would easily be enough work to be occupied all day, sometimes even there was too much to get done in a day. However there were the odd days when i could have been busier.
Straight away i was involved with a major system changeover within the department so i held a high level of responsibility straight away. People would come to me all the time for help or advice expecting me to be able to help even though i'd just started.
I was given a lot of opportunity to improve many skills as well as learning new ones. I spent 2 days at the start of my placement on a training course in London for Microsoft VBA as well as attending excel and presentration training internally.
The Company
At times it was quite but people were always open to talk to throughout the day. Social activities were organised at times and there's always someone bringing in cakes for birthdays!
The year was organised well as a whole. Time was given at the start of the year to be introduced into the company and as time went on there was always organised reviews etc to monitor your progress.
The company invested by providing the extra training courses both internally and externally throughout the year. Guidance was always given to help develop interpersonal skills such as communication through means such as presentations etc.

Company Parties/Events
If you perform well on your placement year there is the possibility to undergo a talent review at the end of the year which well then form the basis for future employment prospects.
The Culture
Events and parties were always going on throughout the year. During the handover period it was like freshers week with events going on every night. Then at weekends people would always go out and socialise.
The cost of living was relatively cheap for the area. Accomodation was around the £300 mark for your room and bills so not too bad.
The nightlife in the area was ok but not the best. However trains into places like London, Watford and St Albans were easily accessible and frequent for a good night out.
There were plenty of opportunities to be invovled with a variety of different activities outside of work. Within my department events were organised such as meals, bowling etc. In addition there wer sporting events such as football tournaments set up.
