The Role
I enjoyed my placement year at Vauxhall. It was great experience to work in an international company and put into practice your knowledge from your degree course into a job role.
Colleagues were friendly and always were happy to help if you needed help within your job role tasks.
My manager and colleagues in my department were very helpful and happy to support/give guidance when needed throughout my placement year.
In a finance role, my workload was quite busy daily and especially busy around month end and the financial year end. The workload was manageable and once you get used to the role and tasks, it's a lot easier to complete.
At Vauxhall you are given real responsibility in your job roles from the beginning of your placement and I completed tasks which were for the month end process, such as account reconciliations - so this was quite a big responsibility but was good exposure into the company.
Throughout my placement, the skills and training I learnt was great experience and will be transferrable skills that will assist in degree studies and also in future graduate jobs.
The Company
Finance department is quite quiet but everyones friendly to chat to whilst working.
The placement year was very well organised.
The company provided the following training for undergraduates: - Presentation training - Excel training - Safe Driving - various online learning courses
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
There is opportunities to come back as a graduate within the company and complete a graduate scheme with them.
The Culture
There's over 100 placement students at Vauxhall, so there's lots of social events and activities that you can get involved in over the year!
There is a university nearby so there's student deals around and the rent in the area is reasonable.
There's only a few clubs, but plenty of pubs. Also as there's a lot of students, there is student offers which was good.
There was charity events you could get involved in outside work and also sports teams, such as football, badminton at the nearby sports centre.
