The Role
Despite my whole department being outsourced, I enjoyed the challenges I faced
I felt like part of the team, everyone is really friendly, and it is quite a relaxed environment
We were all assigned a mentor who we could speak to about any issues, if we wanted support with anything etc.
Although there was a lot of uncertainty over the year with the outsourcing of the department, I always asked for work if I felt I hadn't got enough to do.
The outsourcing gave me opportunities to learn to use new softwares, and to learn to use current softwares to a higher level.
Having the ability to use different software such as SAP, and having real work experience I hope will help me when it comes to applying for graduate placements.
The Company
Everyone is really nice and friendly, and this is the same across all departments that I am aware of. It is quite a relaxed atmosphere, and you get treated like one of the team. Even with the outsourcing going on morale still stayed amongst the team.
It was a bit of an unsettling year with the outsourcing, as my job role changed several times, and there was a lot of uncertainty, so this was a bit unfortunate in terms of lack of the structure that was initially there.
I did a few training courses when I first started that were compulsory for all students. I have also written training guides for different tasks I have done, and for software I had learnt to use.

Staff Sales/Staff Shop
There aren't any opportunities to come back as a graduate, as there is a focus on reducing headcount.
The Culture
With the amount of undergraduates on placement there is always something going on, and everyone has a friendship group to go on days out, nights out, meals etc. with
The cost of everything was fairly standard, not overly expensive. Though I think the fact you're not having to live off a student loan makes a big difference.
The nightlife isn't fantastic, but if you're willing to catch a train somewhere there's a choice of places fairly nearby that are good for bar crawls or clubbing, whatever you're into.
I organised going to visit one of the ports to see how the cars are transported, but there haven't been any other opportunities, you have to seek them for yourself.
