The Role
I really enjoyed my work during my work placement at vauxhall. There was always a plentiful supply of challenging work and opportunities to take on additional work to allow you to gain maximum experience in your role.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues. I was treated like any regular employee and I really felt my role was adding value. I felt that undergraduates were properly integrated into the organisation.
Support and guidance was always available from my supervisor, nothing was too much trouble. If I was in trouble or struggling it was easy to talk because of the open and honest environment.
I was quite busy in my placement as a lot of movement of staff took place on my placement and this allowed me to take on extra responsiblities which enhanced my placement experience.
Due to staff moving around I accumulated a lot of responsibility over my placement which was an advantage I feel.
I have gained a lot of HR/Payroll Systems skils and knowledge and this will definately benefit me in the future. I have also developed skills in Communication, conflict resolution and planning and organising which again are used in all walks of life.
The Company
The atmosphere in our office was genrally quite easy going and you could talk about things freely and openly.
The work-placement was very well organised and structured as the programme has been well established for a number of years.
There were oppportunities to go on internal Microsoft Office courses and complete e-learning. There was also a opportunity to be involved in the performance management process through the CAP system (Commitment and Accountability Partnership)
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I would really like to return to the organisation in an operational HR related role or a HR systems related role as my placement has allowed me to to experience these areas in depth and I believe this would be where my skills would be put to good use.
The Culture
Due to the fact that the undergraduate programme is quite large a good proportion are rellocating to Luton so everyone was in a good position to make new friends and socialise with other undergraduates.
The cost of living was relatively in expensive because Vauxhall are based outside of London. However London was only a short train ride away.
In luton the nightlife was'nt that great.
There were plenty of opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work social and charity related.
