The Role
The placement can be challenging and will certainly prepare you for any future jobs.
I was lucky to have great colleagues. They are very approachable and you will develop good friendships with them.
Generally the organziation was very helpful and supportive. Sometimes when they are busy it can be a little difficult though.
It really varies. Sometimes I was flooded with work and was struggling to get it done. Other times the workload would significantly decrease, however this would give you a chance to catch up on any work.
I was lucky to be involved in a IT Project that had come along from very high up in the organization. I also presented the progress of the project to the IT director of Europe.
There is a lot to pick up from this organization. This is a very large organization and the skills you gain will be valuable for your degree and any future jobs.
The Company
It's a dynamic atmoshpere at the moment. There is a lot of change currently happening in th IT space for GM, so things are moving quickly.
A great deal of effort is put in maximizing your time here. They are frameworks in place that will evaluate your progress and give you objectives and goals.
You are treated as a regular employee so you get the same training benefits. I went to several 3 day courses and I received an ITIL Foundation certification.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
The organization does not have a graduate scheme currently running, however graduates that have perfomed well during the placement will be considered for a permanent position.
The Culture
There are many undergraduates working at Vauxhall, so there is a lot of opportunity to create a good social circle. I was involved in a weekly sports sessions with colleagues and students.
Luton is cheap, however socially there isn't much to do here. London is only a quick train trip away though.
I would say the nightlife is not particularly good in Luton, however like I mentioned above London is close where there are plenty of good places to visit.
Yes, we had an opportunity to volunteer and be involved in a track day and also be driven in some of the newly released vehciles.
