The Role
It took a while to get used to it, and found it quite boring at first. However, it improved as i improved and generally became more enjoyable.
I felt that my colleagues did appreciated my contribution and after several months were asking me for help which made me realise how much I had developed.
Can't really fault management, was always there for support, and worked through difficulties together. Constant meetings one to one to discuss problems or developements.
Obviously some times of the month are busier than others, with end of months or year etc... Some periods were busy but it was perferctly managable. Due to the nature of the work, found some of it fairly tiresome, but there was always more to do.
I actually had quite a bit of responsibility. Was responsible for running tools and providing support for not only people within my office but also throughout Europe, and often I had to figure problems out for other people and fix them.
There are certainly many things i can take away from the placement, some specialised skills like database management etc.. But also developed skills, for example problem solving and organisation drastically improved throughout the placement. As well as personal skills such as confidence.
The Company
In the beginning it was farely sombre but as the year went by, lots of others joined the office at a similar time so afterwards the atmosphere improved and quite enjoyed it towards the end.
For this role, it is difficult to prepare fully for due to requesting access to certain things is difficult before you are set up as an employee. But overall it was reasonable.
The company offered plenty of skill improvements, such as program training etc, and also recieved training day in London. So felt they were investing in us but best way to learn is to do it yourself in my opinion.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
There is the potential there, its certainly an avenue I wouldnt have considered before. But I think i would prefer to work in a different job.
The Culture
Im sure there was, but to be honest I didn't make the effort most the time!
Very reasonable, much cheaper than my uni accomodation so that was good. Socialising is also fairly cheap or as you would expect it to be.
Didnt tend to go out in Luton, as it isnt the best place around.. but other areas near by are good.
There were extra opportunities, weekly football game and things like that. There's always things to do if you want to do them I guess. It is a town!
