The Role
The internship gave me a good insight into life as an auditor. Although some of the tasks were quite repetitive, overall it was a good experience.
I developed a good relationship with my colleagues and felt like a valued member of the team.
Everyone was always willing to provide assistance with anything I was unsure of and at the start of each job the managers set out what I would be doing during the audit.
I was always given work to do and the time passed very quickly.
The amount of responsibility varied throughout the placement. At the start I had limited client contact and mainly assisited the other members of the team. Towards the end, I was given a lot more responsibility, which gave me the chance to talk to clients on a one-to-one basis. I believe my experince was very similar to someone in the first year of the graduate scheme.
It helped me develop skills that will use when I begin in a graduate role.
The Company
There was always a good atmposhere in the office. As long as you get the work done, you can have fun along the way!
At the beginning of the internship I was given a timetable which set out exactly what I would be doing during my four weeks with KPMG.
All interns attended a two day business focus course at the beginning of the internship
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
At the end of my internship I was offered a graduate position beginning in October 2010.
The Culture
Most of my colleagues were recent graduates who were keen on going out and I was always invited. We also played golf after work.
Cambridge is a relatively expensive place to live, athough going out is not too expensive.
Cambridge is not renowned for its nightlife! There are plenty of pubs though.
