The Role
I worked in application support and thought it was a great role, there was a good balance between hands on work and desk work. I always had several jobs going on at the same time.
Everyone was friendly and keen to help. I had a high level of responsibility over my projects and I was treated like one of the engineers for the most part.
My manager sat behind me and so was easily accessible and keen to help.
Always had a good workload with some busier periods. There was always more work to be done if I needed it (usually didn't).
Had complete responsibility for getting my projects done, although I had support where needed. This was daunting at the start but very fulfilling when the results came through.
The engine business and role were very relevant to my mechanical engineering degree. There were also additional presentation, problem solving and project management skills that will come in very handy.
The Company
Professional but occasionally there was an office party to lighten the atmosphere.
There was a very organised set up from the very beginning, starting with a 2 week hand over from previous students which helped with settling in, and regular meetings with my manager etc..
There was various work-related training throughout the year which I was encouraged to attend. There was also community involvement that was encouraged as well as various other personal developement opportunities
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
There are good employment prospects and bursary programs up for grabs.
The Culture
There were a good number of us and it was fairly easy to organise meals and social hangouts throughout the year.
Daventry/Rugby area is reasonably priced, however there is nearly nothing to do in the immediate area.
Very small town with only one or two places to go.
There is plenty of opportunity for community involvement, attending open days, and supporting other such activity.
