The Role
I really did enjoy my work placement, and I feel I did really progress my knowledge and understanding going back to university.
There is a good relationship and enviroment to work with no definition between management, they respect the role and job I do, and listen to what I have to feed back.
There is a lot of training and support, I felt truely valued by all those I worked, and could always go to any one with any issue I had, inside or outside of work to further my development.
My role is dependent on the market and the products we have within it. Sometimes you will be really busy, whereas othertimes it is a little quieter. However this doesnt mean there is no work to do and there is always something to do, it just depends how pressured you time is. Thankfully i've always managed it well and only ever stay late for a small time once or twice.
I was given quite a fair amount of responsiblity, and Vauxhall definitly dont expect you to be the teaboy. I've had to work on some serious cases where I have had a direct influence on customers and the image of the company.
Although the role is not directly related to my university degree, I feel it has still very much aided me. Its given me a different perspective on how I design and approach products, their limitations and makes me consider how how people react and how to counteract that with good design instead of purely focusing on the development of a new product with out considering. But I think the biggest bonus was the general business skills I have picked up and how to conduct yourself in a place of work.
The Company
It was good, the office was serious but there was a lot of fun to be had, and there was always jokes and stories going on, espically between the other undergrads. The managers would oftern take the mick, but can take it too, which is nice.
Considering its been going 25 years that gives you the answer. There is help sorting out housing, theres nights out, and a 2 week handover with the former undergrads to help you settle in.
I attended a lot of training - presentation, excel, manufacturing etc etc - so it was very benefical in that aspect. You could also sign on the free courses to further your develop more if you wanted.

I would like to think I have a chance as I have worked with the company, and can imagine they want to pick from within their own talent pool. However in comparison to the number of undergrads taken on each year only a small percentage are taken back on as a graduate.
The Culture
Yes! Although Luton is limited, there would generally be something going on between the other undergrads, its a good bunch of people, and with London so close it easy to have a good time. As for departmental there would be the occasional staff party or social, which was always fun.
Very much similar to university and quite cheap, unless you go to London which can get expensive.
Pretty poor, but its not far from London, and Hertfordshire has some good nights out. But even so you still have a good time with the other undergrads.
There is many clubs run though work and its very easy to get invloved. Espically sport, from football, running, basketball etc etc. The Vauxhall rec centre can pretty much accomodate it, and there is also plenty of other gyms and a new leisure centre open.
