The Role
Exciting, challenging and fantastic people.
I felt the work I was doing contributed to the whole group project. I felt valued and respected as every other emplyoyee was.
With no prior accounting knowledge I relied heavily on the other staff and management. Everyone was really helpful and always on hand to answer questions.
I rarely worked past 5pm, I was given certain tasks to do over the placement and left to manage my own time.
I was given as much repsonsibility as I could have handled. I spoke to the Financial Director in a company several times about their financial processes which was daunting but a valuable learning curve. It is hard to be given too much responsibilty as I had no official accountancy qualifications however, I felt trusted to create my own documents to contribute to the group project.
The skills I developed will not benefit me academically now back at University, however I feel that my business awareness, confidence and career motivation have been hugely developed.
The Company
It is hard to comment as an auditor spends most of their time out at the client. However, the atmosphere within the small teams was brilliant.
From the induction training, to the mentor system, to the organisation of the final interview during the placement everything was run efficiently.
We were given a training session in the first two days of the placement, then severla online classes about confidentiality and how the company works. We were also organised to attend a charity day for the company. The company gave lots to our development.

I had my interview within the thrird week of the placement and was offered a job the enxt day, cannot wait to start!!
The Culture
We were all assigned to a mentor to speak to about the role before the placement actually started. We met for drinks to get to know everyone and they made us all feel really welcome, a great idea which reduced the nerves before starting!
I lived at home throughout the placement so can't really comment but Leeds in general is not an expensive place to go out. We had several nights out which were not expensive.
Leeds is a great city and drinks straight from work with the team was really fun.
We were all involved with some charity work, a day volunteering at a rural centre gardening. However, due to the short nature of the placement, there wasn't any other opportunites that could apply to us.
