About You
It was a great experience and a great head start to what my degree can lead me into.
They made me feel like i was a member of the team, and was not treated like a university student. Saying that, i was not overloaded with pressure or information during the week.
There was a structured plan and there was a load of information to receive for the one week that it lasted for. Initially its hard to take in, but given leaflets and booklets it makes it easier.
I improved my socialising skills greatly and how formal i should be when working in such an environment. The things i learnt during this week have helped me decided where id like to go towards in the future after my degree.
The Company
It was structured well, and mostly followed on the times given. However, job shadowing , one had to make there own way to the different locations, and the locations were quiet far - there was no map or direction given, which meant we had to find them ourselves.
All the students where very friendly and welcoming. As everyone was in the same situation and did not know eachother, it became easier to mingle as the week went on.
There were interviews and presentations which students had too deliver. They showed us how and gave us a time span in which to do it in. These are skills which will be needed in most if not all jobs.
It made me understand it will be hard work, due to the hours the workers said they had. However, choosing the right section of the bank, in which you enjoy working would be more appropriate.
The insight began talking about how the bank is moving towards the culture aspect, how its proving opportunities for special groups in the society.
I still am unsure of my future plan, however wit the degree i hold, Economics and Maths, this was an option i had and after the insight, banking to me has become a stronger option and hence this insight was very valuable to me.
Everything Else
Week began with network drinking, where socializing was minimal as no one knew each other, however during the week, there were group tasks and a final network drinking which people were more comfortable with.
At first, they were a bit awkward and quiet, however as the week went on, it became more relaxed.
Yes. They don't have many commitments outside of work, hence they have long working hours, but opportunities to travel the world were available.
Great experience! Useful and helps build skills.
