The Role
A really good placement year and gave me experience in a wide range of activities. You Learn all about the LabVIEW programming platform and how that is helping engineers across the world. This Placement had very little differences to someone working full time and gave the best experience for working as a graduate.
The interns within the company made up a large percentage of the people at the company and we involved with many of the events and programs going on.
There were always channels of support open so the no problem was allowed to stagnate. You knew where to go for help and you sometimes became the go to person if you had experience in some of the products which NI Sell.
There was never a day where you were left not knowing what to do. you had time to work as well as self teach yourself in any spare time you found.
As mentioned previously there was very little difference between a intern and a graduate working within the company. Interns were are valued and once experienced enough would be involved with all parts of what NI do
There a lot of different skills which i have learnt and i look at taking these on to use in my final year at university. the start of my placement was 8 weeks of solid training which some companies would be paying thousands of pounds for. This training and the experience gained can be taken and used in all sorts of companies. You also do lots of teaching and presenting in addition to other soft skills.
The Company
There was never a dull day and with the office having a large percentage of interns there was always fun to be had. The company maintained a work hard play hard policy.
from the opening day there was a plan laid out of what you would be doing through the training period and then into the real work. There was other events and projects planned for the interns throughout the year so organisation was good.
The initial training was approximately 8K + There was also the chance to do a certification which is a recognised qualification in LabVIEW
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
There is the potential to come and work for the company after this placement. Its not something I have decided on.
The Culture
There is always something happening so there is usually a chance to meet up with people and have a good time outside of work.
I go to uni in Guildford so costs are quite high. I found that the prices in the area were good.
Newbury is small and the night life wasn't great but Reading and London are more than accessible
there was a lot of charity events as well as different work events which NI was involved in so there was chance to get involved in activities. there was also football which was played on a weekly basis
