The Role
You are going to get good and bad days in any job you go in to. It really depends on the people you work with and what you are doing, I am lucky that I worked with some interesting and inspiring people. Due to the hours of work I didn't get that many opportunities to go out socialising on week nights which would have made it more enjoyable.
One of the great things about working at Goldman Sachs is that they really value their employees. All achievements are acknowledged by management and there is a great team work culture that means there is always someone to help.
As previously mentioned there is a large 'people' focus at the firm. Management always want to find the best in all employees in order to help them progress in their careers.
There was a high workload on a daily basis. This is something that you get used to and with the great team culture there is always someone there to help you so you can all get out at the end of the day.
For the second half of my placement I moved teams and was given full responsibility of an area. This was a fantastic opportunity to learn exactly how the processes worked and I now have full knowledge on that area. This was an advantage as I was able to make efficient changes to the core functions of this area.
Goldman Sachs have a great training program for analysts which will most definitely benefit my in final year of Uni and when I go on to get a graduate job.
The Company
The atmosphere varied, sometimes it could be very quiet then it could go to the other extreme and be a loud atmosphere. In general it was a relaxed atmosphere amongst the people I worked with.
The placement programme is very good. They have a great structure which provides training during the first ten weeks in addition to the training you undergo in your team. You have structured reviews and projects throughout the year which help you to track your progress.
The firm are very good at ensuring you are trained to the highest standard. The have a great online training programme set up and continually have class room training sessions if you feel the need to attend.

I would be more than happy to go back to the firm, however I am keeping my options open to explore what other sectors have to offer.
The Culture
The other placement students and I would go out when we could, again due to the working hours it could be hard to organise an event when everyone was free!
Living in London isn't cheap, but you get used to the costs and budget around that. The cost of rent etc gets cheaper the further out of London you go.
There were plenty of bars to choose from in the area and it was only a short cab drive away to a club. But be prepared for the prices as it's not cheap!
The firm have lots of affinity networks you can get involved in so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work.
