The Role
Really enjoyed my year, was a lot better than expected.
Feel like an intergral part of the team.
Always able to ask questions and gain clarification, not query is too small it ask.
Varied by day, some days very busy and dont leave the office until late but others more calm. A definite need to be organised!
Given a full job roll rather than just a placement and shadowing. Had responsibility over many different areas and tasks.
Very relevant for a future career in merchandising, have learnt all the basics and gained good experience. Developed broad skills such as time management and excel skills that will be useful when back at university.
The Company
Very friendly atmosphere, everyone chats and gets along well.
More like a job role than a structured placement, not much input after the first few weeks of induction.
I was able to attend as many courses that I wanted, both related to my job and other areas I had an interest in.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
After a final sign off day then offers for the grad scheme are given to placement employees who have impressed throughout the year. Offer is subject to vacancy and attaining a 2:1.
The Culture
Nothing much organised by Tesco other than a couple of cath up events. We did organise a few things by ourselves.
Close to london so not cheap. £350-£500 a month for rent with bills on top.
Not great in Hertfordshire, plenty of pubs though! Its quite easy to get into london where you're spoilt for choice!
A few opportunites but these were not specific to placement students and you had to make a point of getting involved.
