The Role
A fantastic year with great hands on experience, very helpful colleagues with huge amount of knowledge learnt. I feel confident I will use these skills in my career.
Four months into the placement, I felt like an integral part of the team, and was given tasks of increased responsibility with support if I needed it. Eight months into the placement I felt like a full time employee.
Due the nature of the work (aviation industry) it was vitally important that we were taught well to ensure we knew how to complete tasks correctly. I was provided with a high level of support whenever I required it.
Varies, some weeks I was away from desk for entire days running around resolving queries, and some weeks I had time to sit at my desk and catch up with reports. Company is primarily operations driven, so you would expect to be busy.
A very high level of resonsibility was given to me as soon as my superiors were confident I could carry out the tasks. I was running my own meetings, providing support to other employees and visiting vendors with no supervision.
Great exposure to working life, which is vastly different to university. Gained great knowledge in regards to engine components which is related to my degree (Aerospace) and how the shop functions.
The Company
Very good atmosphere with great friendly colleagues. Occational bad vibes due to high pressure at end of quarter, but is expected.
Placement training plan avaible but was not followed due to requirements of the business. Interns are very quickly thrust into high pressure situations, but support is available.
I was able to learn about any topics I wanted if I inquired, and was able to get involved in different parts of the business is I showed interest. Many oppurtunities to learn due to the size of company.

We are encouraged to apply throughout the GE network, references will be provided freely if that is the case. Many interns are offered full time jobs if they excel.
The Culture
Community of about 50 interns on the site, of whom all are connected and regularly organise social events.
Cardiff city is reasonably priced considering how good the area is, the facilities avaible and the closeness to work.
Cardiff city nightlife, speaks for itself!
GE has a very good volunteering programme, interns are encouraged to get involved in many different projects and organise thier own. Cardiff city has many activities to get involved with.
