The Role
I was fortunate enough to have a really good manager, who was very supportive of me getting involved in exploring all asepcts of the firm, from attending Bloomberg training, to Investment meetnigs - none of which were strictly related to my own role.
We had a really great team atmosphere and I was consistently shown how I was adding value to the business.
My manager was very busy but she would always have time for my questions - there were also plenty of other people around who were really helpful with anything I wanted to know.
There were some quiet days but these are unavoidable. Fortunately I never experienced any huge work inundations.
My manager put a lot of trust in me and allowed me to gain exposure to very senior people by talking about my projects and by letting me call BlackRock employees across EMEA
I will benefit primarily from the soft skills learnt. Other technical skills are generally applicable to inhouse software, although I have come a long way in developing my Excel and Powerpoint skills.
The Company
Very lively bunch, always a conversation going or cake circulating.
HR frequently asked for feedback so our opinions were heard.
Huge opportunities for technical training if you were proactive about it and there were plenty of networking/ Lunch and Learn events that were pure investment into us.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Really hoping to return!
The Culture
I developed very close friendships with several of the interns and was on good terms with the rest.
London is always pretty expensive! Travelcards help.
There were lots of inter-bank events which were a great way of meeting other interns.
BlackRock organised lots of socialising opportunities (pub quizes, sushi and sake, BBQs).
