The Role
The internship programme was really good with a supportive intern community. However, I did not enjoy the job role as it was not what i expected after reading the job description.
The team that I worked with were all really friendly and welcoming. HP has an open door policy so if you need to talk to or want to talk to anyone, no matter how high up they are, they will always make time for you.
Resource was a major issue within my team so support and guidance was not always there. I was encouraged to make decisions myself and figure out the correct routes myself and if anything was night right, my manager was happy to take the blame.
I was always busy and had to work unpaid overtime just to keep up with my workload.
I had the same responsibility and more as my team members who were doing the same Job as me. I was expected to take on more projects and tasks as an intern to improve my understanding and skills in various areas.
In relation to my degree subject, the skills that I learnt were not necessarily helpful. However, in terms of general confidence and skills such as communication, time keeping and organisation, i have greatly improved. And have gained many skills to assist in my future career.
The Company
Everyone was so busy that we rarely had time to talk which can be a bit dull, however there were always activities going on in the office to get involved in such as charity events.
I had a bad handover from my previous intern. My contract was incorrect and I was asked to start a week earlier than stated meaning that I did not get paid for it. My role was not offered until after the start date of all other interns. Because of the late organisation of my role and interview, it meant that when I started I was unable to get involved in most intern community activities because they had already happened, meaning it was extremely difficult to meet other interns.
At the start of my placement i was promised that every effort would be made to help get me involved in more of a marketing side of things. However, barely any effort was made and any attempts I made myself always hit a dead end. Everyone, including myself were too busy to invest time in my personal development.

I would definitely want to come back to HP as they are a great employer. Just not back to the job I have been doing.
The Culture
There was a good social scene however, it was hard to get involved in anything as I was included in the intern community event at the beginning of my placement and i was really busy.
Reading was a lot more expensive that what I am used to. My rent alone was £325 per month for a basic student property meaning I had barely any money left.
I went out a few times but nothing was amazing. The clubs I did go to were small and expensive
There were plenty of opportunities, mostly charity work and sports.
