The Role
I learnt a huge amount over the year, helping me to decide this was the career path I wanted to pursue. It's hard work, with a steep learning curve but you get out what you put in. I really enjoyed the work I was doing and the people I was working with.
From relatively early on in the year, I felt as though I was treated as a member of the team and not as a placement student. I was given a lot of responsibility and trusted to get on with my day to day job without being constantly checked up on.
Great support network of buddy, mentor and manager.
Always busy but I'd prefer to be busy and stretched that not have enough to do.
Worked on a range of important projects that were user facing and critical to the team.
Some of the knowledge I developed is only useful within Goldman Sachs, but a large amount is transferable and will be useful throughout my career.
The Company
Fun, relaxed work environment, although this can be very dependent on the team.
In my experience, teams are used to having work placements, so plan suitable projects and invest the time to help develop their skills. HCM initially organise events and projects over the first few weeks of the placement.
Training was very much on the job rather than upfront. This suited me, but may not suit everyone who prefers more formal training.

Generally they take on work placements with the view of offering them a job if things work out for both parties!
The Culture
Livelier during the summer when there are double the number of placements. After September, things quieten down.
It's London!
City is quite quiet if you want more than a quick drink after work.
Range of social committees and sports clubs. Not that many events organised with the other work placements.
