The Role
Good variety of work and projects that I was involved with
Few of the main people I worked with were friendly and talkative with me
Lots of support and answers to questions
Never really bored, some days were incredibly busy but I was never swamped
Fair amount of responsibility, was given projects to work on solo which I completed and learned a lot from
I now want to get into career for Hardware/Systems Engineering and not Software Engineering
The Company
Relaxed office
Seemed very flaky initially, wasn't assigned a buddy and my job description was very vague. The way I was paid and the fact I was set as a "contractor" rather than an employee caused very large confusion as I wasn't paid the same in terms of sick/holiday days. The office took over and sorted everything for me in terms of work and learning. Apart from the first few weeks and the way I was paid it was fine.
Apart from colleagues showing me the ropes, I was never sent on any training courses or given the opportunity to do so
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Above 25 days holiday
It was a very good experience to work at Thales and I would certainly consider working with them again.
The Culture
Very low communication between other interns, the Graduates seemed to have it better. Managed to get involved with some graduate social scenes but they seemed to fizzle out fairly quickly.
Very expensive. House rent was barely covered by my wage and restaurants/bars were expensive.
Few bars and 2 very mediocre clubs that were barely open. Very expensive nights out as well.
Not many at all. Graduates all seemed busy with their lives to do anything. Even if someone asked if people wanted to do stuff it was usually cancelled due to lack of interest which was a huge shame.
