The Role
I not only enjoyed my day-to-day role, but the other activities that were organised for interns in general
I felt immediately a part of my team and there were always opportunities to get to know others more e.g. team building/days out
My manager was very helpful particularly with regards to encouraging my own personal development outside of my role
Depending on the time of year, I could be very busy, or less occupied. I used this time to work on personal development activities
There were always opportunities to create new projects and run these on my own, but even on a daily basis I was pretty much left to supervise my own activities.
I definitely believe that the confidence I have gained has made me more pro-active, with regards to getting involved in things I wouldn't normally do, especially outside of my studies.
The Company
I worked with very, loud, outspoken and funny people, so it was a fun environment most of the time.
The process was very structured and organised, though quite long, we were always kept informed/
My manager was excellent at suggesting people to speak to within the company and most people encouraged us to speak to a range of different people and get involved in all the various activities on offer
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
International Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
I do not particularly want to work for an IT based firm, but as an organisation in general, Microsoft was a great company to work for.
The Culture
There were always get-togethers for interns to get to know each other, and as part of the internship, there were roles specifically geared towards organising intern events, yearbooks etc
Reading is a very cost-friendly town and most things are reasonably priced as it is just outside of London.
There are clubs for everyone, which we as interns certainly made a use of!
Activities like Challenger, volunteering, fun-runs etc
