The Role
I loved my placement, I was welcomed into the team straight away and was made to feel at home. Not only has the job been enjoyable, but the people I have met here has made me love it even more. I will be sad to leave.
Within my direct team, I feel I was valued by colleagues. As mentioned, they made me feel welcome from the start and we all got on extrememly well. As the months went on, they started to trust me more and I was given more and more responsibilities.
My manager was excellent. I was in the communications team and there was only 2 people involved in this team, my manager and I. We worked closely together on a day to day basis and she was also there to provide me with help and guidance throughout my placement. We had weekly reviews as well to discuss any problems/issues which I found extrememly beneficial.
At first, I was not very busy. This was becasue I was new to the company and was just getting to grips with my roles and responsibilities. However, as the months went on I became more confident and I was given a lot more tasks.
I was responsible for many communication tasks such as; collating the weekly email, drafting the quartley newsletter, the work experience programme and charity work. I loved my job because I was given both Communication responsibility and Corporate Social Responsibility.
I have already gained myself a marketing job because of the placement this year. Without the skills and experience I gained at my placement, I feel I wouldn't have been able to have done this. I will always remember and use the skills I have learnt here in the future.
The Company
I worked in the HR department, which meant sometimes the mood in the office was quite dull. However, the team were always lovely and even through difficult times everyone tried to remain positive.
The placement was extremely well organised from the start. I was never confused about my roles/responsibilites and always knew what I had to do/where to go etc..
Perkins were great for training and development. Placements have the opportunity to get involved in free training. While I was on my placement I took a German language course and a presentation skills course.
Perkins do not employ graduates for the role I was in, however it might be a possibility to apply for the marketing graduate scheme in a years time.
The Culture
Yes, great. We had our own Facebook page which meant we organised events nearly every week! There were around 30 placements altogether and there was always opportunities to socialise throughout the whole placement. This is the main thing I will miss!
I lived at home so it was realtively cheap for me. However I know it's not expensive around here.
Peterborough is ok for a night out, but not the greatest. There are a couple of clubs. We tended to gather round someones house instead of going out.
Yes there are loads of clubs/activities outside of work. Some placements were involved in cricket, rowing, rugby etc..
