The Role
It was a great enjoyable experience and a valuable stepping stone on achieving my long term career goals.
My colleagues were great help and inspiration, always ready and willing to answer questions and provide guidance.
There was a strong management system in place to cover both personal development and work task delivery.
There was a good work load most of the time and plenty of opportunity to fill less busy time with additional work, such as Giveback or personal development activities.
I had the opportunity to work on my own project, manage my own time and delivery reports. By the end of the placement I worked on live systems and made frequent changes to live code. However, most of my work was strictly internal, even though it had an effect on internal operations.
I learned an incredible amount of technical and interpersonal skills. I am now more confident in successfully completing my final year and writing a dissertation on a meaningful subject. The skills I gained helped me build on what I learned at university and understand the connection between all the different areas of computing.
The Company
The department was very busy and all-business, however, there were some team building activities and department or team events.
The company has plenty of experience in providing placements and hence has a very strong well-planned system in place to ensure maximum benefit to the students, as well as the company.
The company was very involved with providing us with plenty of opportunity for personal development such as Educations and targeted Giveback projects.

Working from home
The process of applying for graduate jobs with the company was simplified for current placement workers. There was also plenty of information on the different business groups and graduate roles within them, plus full support on the application process.
The Culture
There was a dedicated social group for placement workers ad graduates that organized weekly social events for different interest groups.
Living in the area was significantly more expensive, compared to where I came from. The same goes for food and drinks in pubs and restaurants. However, the company has many different locations available, depending on which business group you apply to.
It was a quiet rural area, but it had some really good pubs and great company in the face of other placement workers and graduates.
The company encourages sports and hobby activities within departments. There is a clubhouse to host events and activities and help people find their best fit. In addition, there were volunteering and Giveback opportunities to aid personal development and differentiate from day-to-day work.
