The Role
Really good year, occasionally stressful but certainly a great insight into the industry
I couldn't have asked for a more welcoming and friendly team
There was a good amount of support when I started at the company to get me up to speed. Whenever I really needed help I was welcome to ask for it.
There was always work to do and other than a few late nights there was a perfect work / life balance.
The level of responsibility I was given was gradually ramped up during the year to the point I was given projects to lead on my own.
Really great industrial experience as well as hard skills developed for my Computer Science degree.
The Company
Everyone was friendly and there was a nice, relaxed atmosphere in the office
Very good support from the intern / graduate HR team; the work assigned to me in the department was also well organised.
Everyone was very willing to help me out. We also performed mid and end of year review to give me personal development targets and to reflect and improve on how I was doing.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
I'd be very enthusiastic to work at Microsoft again in future and the department seem enthusiastic for me to return in future.
The Culture
Lots of intern nights out were set up with other companies in and around Reading like HP and IBM.
Not too bad, certainly cheaper than London and given the fact that the internship was paid, cost wasn't a particular issue.
Quite a bit to do on most nights. Not as bustling as some other towns/cities but there's plenty to do.
So many different projects to get involved in outside of your department, clubs to join, there was definitely a lot to get involved in.
