The Role
In terms of workload and responsibility, within the Perkins division of Cat, the placement exceeded these traits.
Normal work wasn't regularly praised, but work where you went behind your means and stayed behind always got valued.
Weekly through one on one reviews with your manager and team meetings with the rest of your team.
Very busy, due to the company restructuring, work loads increased so your placement was becoming very demanding for the placement level we was at, we was treated like full time employees.
Very similar to before, work loads from people leaving had to be split, adding workload onto a busy schedule, this vastly improved your time management and communication skills.
Time management and problem solving. Each day there is pressure to ensure you either supply information or deliver reports to the business which, if taken right, should aid a good final year.
The Company
Average age of employees compared to the placements created a dull like atmosphere with the majority. However, the younger employees had a balance of having a laugh but also getting the job done.
Placement on a whole was set up will creating good roles for all placements.
Through the personal development plan aided development, I would say the company did very well for placements when I compare against fellows students. In terms of salary etc...
Future prospects to be honest are not the best, due to the company restructuring, opportunities to progress up the ladder seem limited, with current employees struggling to know their next move. On the flip side, for a pure placement experience, Perkins Caterpillar provided an excellent scheme, of which I would defiantly recommend. It is challenging and you are continuously learning which is invaluable for future careers.
The Culture
Social scene was average to good. Work football and social events was always around, but not being in a busy city will always have different feel coming from University.
Very cheap, I would say it was a great money saver, a lot of money can be saved with a good income stream also with very small outgoings.
Nightlife wasn't 'city' like from University, but, it is only a quick and cheap commute to London which if you have contacts there, can be quite cheap.
There was a few volunteering schemes that were on offer. Three peak challenge
