The Role
I worked within Graduate Recruitment. The work was varied every day and got so much responsibility from day 1. There was a large group of IP's (over 20) so had a great social side of it too.
Within my team I always got constant regognition such as a "Big Thank You Award" (£50 voucher) and emails from senoir management recognising my success of projects. The Graduate Team also recognise any extra effort and will make your manager/ team aware of this.
Throughout the programme you are given so much support from Managers, Team Members, and aligned mentors.
Most of the time I was kept very busy and was often expected to put in a lot of overtime, however my manager would recognise this and so would be very flexible with office hours, allowing to leave an hour early/ hour late if needed. I was also given the option to work from home which was great.
As a placement student I was very suprised as to how much responsibility I was given from day one. I work in a small team of 3 people and so you are expected to take on a lot of reponsibility daily. Within my first few months I was given a project of recruiting around 70 apprentices into the company. This was a fantastic opportunity as this had never been done before in the company and so found that I received a lot of regognition from a number of people within the company (even the CEO!) for the work that I had done. Within Graduate, IP and Apprentice Recruitment you are expected to deal with many senior managers, this was a huge amount of responsibility as could impact the team however this has helped me develop and grow in so many ways.
Over the year I have developed a number of skills such as balancing my time for work to complete projects and confidence with speaking to senior executives. The Graduate Programme also allows you to develop many skills for example early on in the year we worked on the CSR project with around 6 other placement students. This developed team player skills as you had to work around others work schedules and at times able to work via conference calls etc.
The Company
I work on 10th Floor- HR. The ofice can sometimes have a great atmosphere when others are in but as much of HR work is working away from the office it can be at times slightly quiet. However there is a good community amongst the IP's as most lunch breaks we always tend to eat together.
The Placement was very well organised. There is a clear and structured development programme where we attend events around every 3 months for a development event/workshop. A mentor system is set up and so you will be aligned a mentor from the first few months so will always have someone to ask questions when needed.
There was a lot of general workshops from the gradaute programme however didn't have much training workwise. There is an option to sign yourself up to workshops however these aren'treally advised to take.

Would definitely come back to the Graduate Programme. As the Graduate Programme is for a longer period of time and at an advanced level they offer a wide range of really good roles and often get a few more perks! Overall great company to work in.
The Culture
The IP & Graduate community are great. It is quite a large size (20 IPs and 50 Grads) and so have met some great people. We have done a number of things as IP's and Grads such as nights out, Holidays and days out such as Royal Ascot.
Reading is a student town and so still can find student accomodation and cheap places to go out. Slightly more expensive then most uni towns as it is situated quite close to London however can still live on a student budget.
Reading has a few clubs such as Sukura, Q Bar and Lola Lo's. There are a few other bars/ clubs. Weekends (ecspecially Saturday) can tend to be quite expensive but other nights such as Thursday night is cheap as many Reading uni students tend to go here. Fujitsu is actually based in Bracknell where there is NOTHING and so I would definitely suggest to any placement student to live in Reading as there is still the option for an alright night out and is only around a 20 min drive to work. London isn't to far away which is great, after the IP events we tend to stay in London for the night take advantage of the paid travel :)
Fujitsu has a few sports clubs which are advertised which you can join. The IP's and Grads will always get involved in lots of different things such as Chairty Events i.e. Tower 42 Challenge, Marathons and so can get involved in some training outside of work.
