The Role
Very enjoyable on a day to day basis.
I felt very valued. Colleagues were relying on me whilst I was leading projects like I was a full time employee.
Support and guidance was always available when needed, and not just from management/supervisor level.
Very busy but not overworked, just how I like it.
Plenty of real responsibility where my performance was actually making a real impact on the company.
With such a high amount of training going on and plenty of learning on a day to day basis, I have learnt an extremely large amount of useful skills which will definitely assist me throughout my life. This applies to both technical and social skills.
The Company
A very lively professional atmosphere.
Absolutely seamless! Caterpillar takes on numerous placements each year and it certainly does show.
Plenty of travel to other UK sites (with fully paid for hire car/expenses) for great training sessions. I also did a wide range of online courses.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
If I had the chance I would absolutely join Caterpillar in the future without a doubt.
The Culture
Communication amongst other placements was always encouraged. We would often talk to each other and plan visits to each others sites. There was also social events in place which were attended by all of the placement students and many full time staff (like go-karting).
I was based in Shrewsbury which had higher rent prices than what I was used to. Living with my partner who obtained a full time job in the area definitely made it much easier. Some places can be very pricey.
Plenty to do! Massive range of pubs, clubs, restaurants and shops. There is also bowling, an arcade and cinema too.
There was always something going on! Caterpillar Shrewsbury has a very strong prominence within their local community. Recent activities include taking part in the Shrewsbury carnival and dragon boat racing. They also have an active football team and a photography club.
