The Role
I enjoyed my work placement greatly, studying a media based course I found it diffiicult in my early months to grasp the complex product range and engineering systems. However with the help of a great team and a supportive organisation I was able to educate myself in a new field and excel in creative and challenging projects.
Being part of a small, regional office it is easy to become extremeley close to your colleagues. I was welcomed with open arms and never at any stage felt out of place. Having this comfort aloud me to learn and develop quickly.
I could not have asked for better management. Being able to learn from experienced proffesionals gave me the knowledge and the confidence to complete my work independently, the changes I have made over the past 12 months are quite remarkable, and it my managers played a key role in my development.
Towards the beggining of my placement I found it difficult to obtain a consistent work load. With my work being dominated by projects, my work load would fluctuate. Once you become more confident and have proven your abilitiys your work load will increase.
After I had proved myself I was given a large amount of responsibility during my placement. I was in charge of developing different media for global tradeshow.
My placement has truly been an eye opening experience. I have been able to develop not only as a person but as an industry proffesional. I have learnt things about myself which I did not know I had. The education I have recieved over the last 12 months will not only help me complete my University degree but help prepare me for my career after I graduate.
The Company
The office environment was extremely humorous, everyone got along which made it easier to work as a team!
As I was the first internship my office had a taken on it is only natural that there were gaps in the experience. Overall I think it was run well, but there were some opportunities for me to develop my knowledge further and unfortunatley it was not possible for me to do this.
There was a lot of time and effort invested in my learning and development.
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Through my placement I was able to develop some great working relationships throughout the organisation. Once I have completed my degree I will re-visit these contacts and fingers cross obtain an available position.
The Culture
I was the only placement student.
There are some local universities, so on week nights it is fairly cheap. However weekend prices are fairly steep especially if you are going out in London!
Bracknell does not really have a nightlife, however it is positioned closely to London and neighbouring towns such as Reading, Guilford, Ascot & Windsor.
We were a very small office so was difficult to arrange any social activities. However we did go for corporate days out and various team meals.
