The Role
I really enjoyed my time with ALDI. There was never a moment where you felt that you didn't have something to do or not being completely involved. A lot of time and responsibility is invested in you, with a high quality output expected.
Within Store, you are treated very well but you definitely have to earn there respect. This means showing full commitment and effort at all times, and in return you will be a valued member of the team. In Head Office everyone was more than happy to help and invest there time in you.
ALDI will put you with an Area Manager as a "mentor" and a Store Manager who has vast experience within the company. My Area Manager and I had set up a weekly meeting where we would discuss performance and future targets which was a massive help, not only in communication, but actively self assessing and pushing yourself to achieve. Although this, one of the main features of this Placement is that you will progress as far as you want to, if you put the effort to constantly progress, you will. If you don't push for more, you will not get it, so it is important not to get comfortable.
Incredibly busy. It was without a doubt the busiest year of my life, but also the most rewarding. From this my organisational skills have been vastly improved. It is important to stay on top your workload and multitask quickly and efficiently. At first this was quick a difficult thing to get a grip of, and it is important that when you are off work, to value your time and balance an outside life, so that you do not get overwhelmed.
You are given a great amount of responsibility from day one. You constantly will have current and relevant tasks right from the off, and while performing as Assistant Manager you are aiding the management of a Multi Million pound Store. If you are willing to work hard then you will learn a and will be given the opportunities.
I gained a great deal from ALDI. I have grown as a professional and as a person. Every skill you have will be tested and greatly improved. Everything that I have learned I can take on into my final year of University and also into any Graduate route I decide to take.
The Company
The Office can be daunting at first, but you soon learn that everyone is very friendly and happy to help.
Very well organised. Before starting you will be given a 48 week Programme outlining your entire placement. Rotas in Store are 3 weeks in advance, and when in Head Office, you are given a breakdown of the areas you will be working in.
You are given every opportunity to succeed at ALDI, it is just up to you and how much you want to.

ALDI are keen to take on the Industrial Placement students onto the Graduate Scheme where you train to be an Area Manager
The Culture
Although we all got on brilliantly and enjoyed working with each other given the opportunity, it is very difficult to enjoy a social seen outside of work with them. As everyone is based across the North West, and due to the working hours, you just do not have the time!
Living in Liverpool I paid my own rent. Using the Wallasey Tunnel does add up during your time in Head Office.
Liverpool as some of the best nightlife in the UK, but do not expect to indulge in this.
Due to the nature of the job, there is very little opportunities to get involved in. There is an Annual Football match that we were able to take part in.
