The Role
I was given real responsibility within a large corporate organisation that helped develop my business and personal skills. A real benefit to working life.
My colleagues were extrememly welcoming and helpful. They trusted me with projects and gave me all the support I needed.
My manager held regular meetings with me and encouraged me to shape my own year. Any problems or questions and he was happy to help.
The team went through periods of being really busy to quite quiet. However, I never found myself doing nothing. There was always something to get involved in.
As the placement went on I was given more and more responsibility. This includes extra CSR/charity projects I worked on. The more you put yourself out there and get involved, the more responsbility you will be given.
Organiational skills, time management, analytical skills, people skills and many more. Whether it be through training courses or on the job training, there are a number of skills that will help with my degree studies.
The Company
Although the office was quite quiet, the team I was involved with were a great laugh. There was rarely a dull day in the office.
The placement team organised a number of placement days for all the IPs to help with our development. We got involved in a number of activities outside the day to day work, including CSR projects. My manager also helped organise my year, although stressed that it was up to me to go out and make my own contacts. Something I found a real benefit.
Any training courses that would help benefit my learning and understanding were recommended and approved.

The Culture
Since it was only myself and one other placement student in our location, the social scene was limited. However, the team tended to go out for each other's birthdays and other celebrations.
Hard for me to comment as I lived at home, however the surrounding area seems reasonably priced compared to other locations.
Again hard for me to comment, however from I have heard the nightlife is limited. Especially if you are living up here with no other IPs.
During working hours, there are a variety of CSR and charity events going on to get involved in. However, from personal experience there are not a lot of activities to get involved in outside of work.
