About You
I had a great time, it was very fun and interesting, cannot recommend the event enough.
All of the employees were very friendly and interested to learn about me, and what I had to say.
Everyone was full of advice, and shared many of their experiences within the industry. The work shadowing was well paced and interesting, I learnt a lot but didn't struggle to keep up with the discussion and examples.
Before the placement I knew nothing about the oil industry, but now I feel like I know the sector very well and am strongly considering a career in the industry. The case study challenge allowed me to get a snapshot of some of the work undertaken at the center, challenged me, but was a lot of fun - definitely a worthwhile experience.
The Company
Very well organised, with a good mix of activities for variety and to maintain interest. As well as talks and presentations, there was work shadowing (including a tour of some of the facilities), a small careers fair, and a case study challenge. Even meal times were provided as a chance to relax and have a chat with fellow students, recent graduates or other employees.
Everyone was really friendly and informative, with a fairly relaxed and encouraging atmosphere. Questions were welcome at any point, and there were frequent interesting discussions.
I learnt a lot about the general industry, and engineers roles within the industry and company, but not much of it was particularly technical.
As well as work shadowing and a lot of discussion with employees that held a variety of roles, a real case study allowed us to engage in a potential trouble shooting job, and understand what was involved.
I spoke to a large range of employees, that all happily explained the company culture and what it was like to work there, as well as discussing social events.
Having known nothing about the oil industry previously, I now feel it is a very interesting field that I would be very interested in pursuing.
Everything Else
All expenses (such as meals, taxi fare, etc) were paid for, and travel expenses to and from the event were reimbursed.
As well as workshadowing, a mini career fair and talks presented by employees, all meal times were relaxed networking sessions.
I got to meet a range of employees, and found it very interesting and beneficial, it was a brilliant opportunity for networking and talking to people about their personal experiences.
It was discussed briefly, as well as covered in a couple of presentations.
It was a fantastic experience, very beneficial as it was both useful and interesting.
