The Role
It was an amazing experience and despite the long commute and adjusting to full time work I loved it and have made some amazing friends.
Everybody was really welcoming and I felt like an integrated team member and not just "the placement student".
I received fantastic support from my manager/supervisor, we met regularly to discuss my performance and how I could improve.
I was given work that needed to be completed on a weekly or monthly basis as well as ad-hoc tasks so had a lot to work on and had to learn to manage my time accordingly and prioritise work.
I was given a lot of responsibility as I advanced through my placement year. I presented my findings on a global scale and also was given the responsibility of managing certain areas of my own study.
Absolutely incredible skills, they will be so useful in the future for finding a job. I have also gained a lot more confidence and the ability to work with people at different levels, how to behave in an office environment etc. The training I have carried out will provide me with a massive advantage over those people that did not do a placement year. I also improved my technical skills drastically and my problem solving skills.
The Company
A lot going on - fundraising, nights out etc. As part of the events team I organised a corperate fundraising event for 300 people. Also particpated in lots of charity fundraising days.
Very well organised, took a while to settle in to work as I had a lot of training to do. The company who we are paid by were involved in the set up and it was all very well organised.
We were invited to GSK experience, a 2 day training course to learn about the company, and are allowed to attend as much training as we like in different areas. It was fantastic!

I would love to work for GSK again, it is a fantastic company which really cares.
The Culture
We organised a lot of trips and nights out, went on a long weekend away in Dublin. Always fun things to do!!
I lived at home so didn't have to spend money on living, but travelling to London for nights out was a bit pricey - but nothing major when you have a railcard and are earning.
London nights out are great! Uxbridge near work is also fun.
If you are pro-active then yes, a lot to do!
