The Role
GlaxoSmithKline is the ideal company to begin your career with!
I felt very welcomed right from the start and built relationships all throughout my year.
GlaxoSmithKline really encourages development and I had continuous support from my manager and mentors.
GlaxoSmithKline has a very good work life balance. Integrity is one of the company's key values so as long as you carry out your responsibilities and prove that you are trustworthy the working hours are very flexible.
At GlaxoSmithKline you will not spend your year carrying out administrative tasks with a minimum level of responsibility. You will be considered a core member of your team and will have the role and responsibilities of a permanent employee.
During my placement year at GlaxoSmithKline I had the chance to develop skills I already had such as time management but also was able to gain new ones such as project management which will definitely be a lifelong skill.
The Company
Most departments at GlaxoSmithKline use hot desking which involves sitting at a different desk each day. This will give you the chance to meet many different people across various teams and have invaluable conversations. There is an affordable onsite gym, supermarket, many different choices for lunch and even a hair dressers!
Placements are well thought out in order to maximise development.
The company will definitely see you as future talent and will therefore invest in you. There are many different courses offered that focus on engaging effectively in a business setting and continuously developing.

Working from home
There are various Graduate Schemes that placement students can be Fast-Tracked to (meaning that you go straight to the assessment centre which is the final stage). There are also many entry level job roles available with the company.
The Culture
We have an organisation formed by placement students that organise activities and events that make it easy for all of the placement students to interact.
It was exciting to live in London for a year and although the London lifestyle can be expensive you can look out for deals to make socialising a bit cheaper.
London is a lively city with events taking place every night of the week.
GlaxoSmithKline encourages community work and employees are able to take one paid day off a year to volunteer in a local community or a charity.
