The Role
This was a great placement that enabled me to experience what it is like to work for a non-I.T company - It was engaging, challenging and rewarding.
Never patronised but given time and space to grow into the role.
from day one GSK makes it clear you have people who you can chat with, there is a clear network of people you can contact throughout the business - from line managers through to Director's / VP's.
Throughout the year, my workload probably leveled off as an 'average' workload. This meant that some weeks I could get on with UNI work or take online courses, but then some weeks I was working past 6pm. Bare in mind that I often had to find my own work - it will not be handed to you on a plate and so you must be motivated!
I was surpirsed by the freedom and responsibility I was given. My responsibilities ranged from managing quite large budgets, events, people and projects. Throughout many of the projects, I defined the plan, the deliverable and any follow up or strategy to grow the deliverable inside of the business.
Techincally i was able to grow, but most importantly I was able to gain experience of working in a large organisation. I have gained business etiquette, understanding how many different functions within a business can operate and also how I.T as a service is operated within a non-technological company.
The Company
Great banter, chat and fun and games to keep employees morale high and improve teamwork.
No huge stutters as I joined & although the management of your placement is handled externally by an agency, this performed much better than I expected.
I didn't have any offical or costly training courses provided; this is because it didn't really apply to my role. However, I know that most other I.T students have completed ITIL training and some have completed PRINCE2.
