The Role
Whilst the placement was very hard work, it was very enjoyable throughout.
I felt like a valuable member of the team as soon as I started working.
Fantastic support from my supervisor, excellent insight on how to succeed in the environment.
Often too busy to complete the work required by my university across the placement year, this was rectified some what towards the end of the palcement.
I was trusted to attend site wide planning meetings, decide on when manufacturing coul return to production, and to assist in work necessary for audits.
Very good skills for work and devlopment of scientific interest, less important skills for and from my degree.
The Company
Good atmosphere generally, but sometimes ghost-like as teams were dismantled.
Everything was ready for my first day and everything has been well organised since, but I'm not aware of this being as a result of planning on anyone's part.
I was trained to complete the work that was expected of me and allowed to develop interests in realted areas.
Flexi Time
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I'ev applied to their fast-track programme for graduates, but unsure of how successful this will be in achieving a graduate job with GSK.
The Culture
Social scene was okay, could have been more vibrant but hampered by the mix of personalities and hobbies of the placement students.
The south east is quite expensive to live and socialise in
Worthing does not have nightlife it has one night club, helpfully called one club, and a few late opening bars. This is due to the average population of Worthing being >50 years old.
I was aware of other departments gettign involved in activities outside of work, but none were communicated to my department; also little to no reward or recognition for hardwork from the company, especially frustrating when other areas are rewarded for your departments hardwork.
