The Role
I've had a brilliant year! I honestly don't think I could have found a better placement.
Everyone here was so lovely and welcoming when I first started and it continued through the year. I was treated like a normal team member, not a student.
My supervisor was always on hand if I needed help or had any questions, but otherwise he was happy to let me get on with the work which was great.
The workload did vary, but generally there was enough to keep me busy without feeling stressed out.
The level of responsibility increased from when I had first started and was assisting on projects to being given projects to complete and write up after about 7 months. I think it was the right amount all the way through, I never felt like I had too much, but equally I never felt I was being babysat either.
I think my placement has been more valuable than the first two years of my degree by a long way.
The Company
The office is quiet but everyone is so easy to get along with and chat to. Definitely not boring! But still easy to concentrate on your work.
GSK takes on many students each year so the whole process is well managed. I didn't really have any hiccups at all. They are so used to having students around.
I went to Sweden for a course in my first month here, and also attended internal courses and external conferences. I was given plenty of opportunities to get out and meet different people within the community which was great.

I'm planning on doing a PhD so my options are still very much open with regards to future employment.
The Culture
As so many students live together there's always house parties and cinema trips going on.
I lived at home but in terms of eating, drinking,
Erm there's a club and a few bars in Stevenage... its easy enough to get to London though for a night out.
There's a sports club on site.
