The Role
The placement was an amazing opportunity working in a head office, learning about different markets and having close involvement with the product.
The department I worked in was tight-knit and had family values. Everyone valued each other and made sure to send thanks when a job was done.
Emphasis is put on self-directed learning and it is up to you to drive your own development, and ask for catch-ups/reviews.
The work-load was a perfect balance!
Responsibility was given from day 1! Other placement students may have had more responsibility in certain areas, although that was mainly down to management expectations.
While on placement I have developed so many key skills, most of which are transferable to my academic and personal life.
The Company
Mondays had the most atmosphere with the office very busy and people catching up on from the weekends. After Mondays, the buyers would usually not be in the rest of the week so the office would be quieter. Perfect when you had lots of work to catch up on.
It was the first year that TJX Europe had set up the placement. The majority of times it was well organised, however there was processes that they may have done differently and have now learned from this and will adapt for the next intake.
The company has invested a lot in to us placement students while looking at us as the future of the company!

Got offered a place on the Buying & Merchandising Graduate Scheme for 2014!
The Culture
Nights out were organised with the majority attending and most placement students lived together in different houses.
Tried to keep living costs to a minimum by living in Watford (cheaper rent than London) and walking to work everyday (no travel costs.) If you prefer the London lifestyle, you will have to fork out for it.
Depends what music / places you like to go to. Went out a few times in Watford - not the most glamorous, but they were made good with the people. Most people will go out in London.
Depending on the department, but usually work and personal life were kept seperate.
