The Role
I really enjoyed the hands on part of trials in the factorys, organisation of trials and the food science element. However I do not have an interest in the pie/pasty industry and the hours can be very long and your life is controlled by the production plan.
Most of the time from my immediate teams i felt very valued and made some very good friends. Only on a few occasions was this not the case.
Very varied support from different managers, my line managers sometimes struggled to give me work to do or to keep track on what work i was doing.
Two very varied placements, at tamar i could be rushed off my feet one day then nothing to do on the next day.
Whislt at Ginsters i had barely any responsibility however at Tamar i was running trials on my own, i was giving free reign to do what I liked, I was given deadlines to get reports and spreadsheets into the supplier.
The skills i have developed will be skills for life, mostly in dealing with the working envronment and the communication skills that are needed, also self-confidence in speaking up when needed to and management skills.
The Company
In both offices i worked in my collegues were very chatty and friendly and not afraid of having a laugh, however they all worked hard and on some days when it was very busy it would remain quiet.
I do not feel that I had much structure to my placement both of my line managers did not know what my role in the buisness was to be.
Whilst at Ginsters i took part in a few training and development days, for example the Art of Brilliance and food saftey course level 2.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I would consider a job with them if offered due to the perks if working full time for the company.
The Culture
I made a few good friends that i went on nights out with, leaving do's, christmas parties were all organised by the company. I enjoyed myself alot.
Living in Plymouth and commuting into Callington was very expensive, the rent in Plymouth was very expensive.
In callington there was no nightlife, i however lived in Plymouth where the nightlife was fantastic.
The samworth academy get you involved in many different activities for example learning at work day i got involved in a yoga class, they also organised netball tournaments, tennis nights and gym classes after work.
