The Role
First real world experience of what I could do with my degree when I graduate, completely blew my expectations out of the water!
Very close knit department, my opinions were asked for and counted.
They were very friendly and eager to help if I was uncertain about how to do something or didn't understand the concept.
Quite busy! Once I got the hang of the techniques I was treated like a memeber of permanent staff in regards to workload; it was never too much or too little.
I was allowed to plan my own experiments and was given complete ownership and responsiblilty of the projects I was working on.
The training I recieved is very relevant for the degree I am studying and by doing a placement at GSK I feel like I have matured more and that I am better equipped to tackle my final year of Univerisity.
The Company
Relaxed atmosphere but the work was still completed on time.
Induction day before starting so as to meet the other placment students and training courses before being let loose in the labs.
I attended meetings, visits to other departments, had the oppurtunity to work in other departments and was sent to confrences relevant to the work I was doing.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Would love to work here again, but want to do a masters first.
The Culture
The company has lots of other placement students so there was quite a proactive student community.
On the commuter belt into London, but still cheap.
Close to London so traveled in.
Lot of gyms around the area.
