    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found it interesting but the atmosphere in the lab was quite uncomfortable. The full-time staff made it clear that they did not want placement students.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The full timers made it very clear that they would rather not have placement students.

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor was there when I needed help but I did not feel entirely comfortable asking for it.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were up days and down days. It was fine.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As much as can be expected in a lab.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My lab technique has definitely improved.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Pretty dull but I think that may have just been my lab. The other labs seemed to have a much better time.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • SRG (the employment agency) were a joke. The reduced our number of holidays even after we had signed a contract. The were also extremely unhelpful. GSK were fine with regards to their organisation of the students.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were trained well starting from day one.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They have made so many redundacies.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I made some really great friends.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was fine. Pretty cheap to get in to london.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Pretty lame but london is so close.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Only if you made them yourself.
