The Role
As an intern in the business, you're valued equally as any other employee. You're given the same amount of responsibility, and are also supported as much as any new employee into the business. Initially, there's a steep learning curve, but once you're passed that, you're able to start taking on new projects and begin understanding the business.
I found everyone to be welcoming, and enjoy working with my core team.
Initially, my manager would weekly one on one meetings with me. We still have monthly meetings, and I'm also supported by a number of mentors, and other managers within the business.
Generally, I've had enough work every day (and more!). I've become involved in a number of projects, which have kept me busy.
I've been given responsibility in terms of ownership of customer accounts, and also accountable for a number of our team's measured targets. I've also project managed a team and have been involved in some high profile projects as well.
The internship has given me an insight into the world of business, which I wouldn't normally see from my Computer Science degree.
The Company
There was a good atmosphere in my office. My particular team were friendly, and regularly go out socially and have fun within the office.
The internship was well organised and setup, especially in the Services business area. Services put on particular projects and skill sessions for their interns.
Whilst on placement, I've completed a number of MOS exams and MTA exams. I've also been able to complete the ITIL Foundations exam, and have attended a number of courses on soft skills as well.

Microsoft have a great graduate scheme, and also has routes back in, whether as a Full Time Employee or contractor with a wealth of training opportunities. It's a very friendly environment, which makes future employment prospects very appealing.
The Culture
Interns would regularly work together on various projects and volunteering work, as well as go out socially.
Living in Reading is reasonable. If you don't have a car, you may struggle for things to do on the weekend occasionally, but there are a number of bars, restaurants and clubs which are roughly 20 mins away from my house.
Regularly go out with other interns and my team. There are a lot of great places to go in Reading.
There are a number of societies and sports clubs to get involved in, all available through an intranet site. If there's not one available that you want, all you need to do is set it up, and get interest from your colleagues.
